The LEN() Function

The LEN() function returns the length of the value in a text field.

SELECT LEN(column_name) FROM table_name;

In this tutorial we will use the well-known Northwind sample database.

Below is a selection from the "Customers" table:

The following SQL statement selects the "CustomerName" and the length of the values in the "Address" column from the "Customers" table:
